[:pouty-grumble:] stupid stairs
Here’s a picture of the beer I’m drinking this afternoon.
No let me rewind back a couple hours: So, I went home from work early today.
No, even further:
This morning started as any other lovely morning. I was a little late getting out of bed and into the shower (left 30-ish minutes later than I normally like), but the scone and latte was a nice accompaniment to a near-no-traffic...

The webber’nets are too full of cute, tiny kittehs. So here’s really big, cute one.
Lightning
It was stormy in the SFBay last night. One lucky photographer caught this.

I don’t know what movie this is from, but it looks kinda amazing. Update: It’s from Gentlemen Broncos. Thanks Sue.

Moving to San Francisco
In the coming weeks Michelle and I are moving to SF. Yes, the girl who for years said she’d be happy in Santa Cruz for the rest of her life has agreed to move away from Santa Cruz. There are a number of reasons for the move, but mostly it came down to that we both felt we needed to make some changes and shaking things up with a big change should make the rest seem a little more trivial.
The...

Christmas came a little late...
…this year, but I finally got my two front teeth.
Today I went in and took the final step in the 2+ year saga that has been getting dental implants and crowns. Not much to say beyond “it went smoothly”; no pain, only a little gum-pressure and I was out of there in less than an hour. Really, I don’t expect many people to notice the difference; not many saw me without my...

18 Hours of Awesome
A couple weeks ago, I got a general heads-up about a “Gala” at the Cal Academy of Science from a friend, Joule. I almost let it pass by, but Chel said I should think about going, since she’d be off doing her own thing at the Renaissance Faire. I was still a bit waffley because of the expense and the fact that it was on a Friday night in SF and I didn’t want to deal with...

Implant Surgery
No, I didn’t get those kind of implants. This morning I had my second of three procedures to replace two teeth that were damaged when I was 10 years old (see my previous post for more history on that).
For the bone graft (again, see the previous post), I was under a general anaesthesia; this time I would only have a local. Since my first consult, I knew this was the case. I would save a little...
On Craptastic Days...
Today I found out my dear, sweet Grandma Dottie passed.
A little over two years ago, my Grandma experienced a cardiac episode; I don’t remember exactly what it was, but upon further investigation, they found that she had some specific heart “issues” and an aneurysm in the artery leading to her kidneys and lower abdomen. Shortly before Chel and my wedding in 2007, she underwent...
On Spontaineity, Weddings and Old Friends...
This past weekend Chel and I went up to Mendocino to attend my college room-mate’s wedding. We decided to go up a day early and stay in a Bed and Breakfast in Fort Bragg. We had an early dinner on the road and by the time we got into Ft. Bragg we wanted something light or maybe some dessert. The B&B was only a block or two from the older part of downtown; we found a little second-story...

On Getting Old...
Yesterday afternoon, my grandmother went in for surgery to fix a aneurysm in an artery that feeds her kidneys. What was supposed to be two to three hour surgery to insert a stint into the affected vessel turned into a 7 hour surgery that involved a quadrupal vessel-graft.
Her prognosis is good and her recovery is going well, but still, it’s a bit scary. I’m holding off on calling her...
On Birthday Cake...
So, if you read my previous post on my cheesecake baking you’ll know that Cheesecake Mk-III, while really good, wasn’t quite the texture I was hoping for. Over the past couple weeks I made another, and brought it into work to get another critique from the engineer guinea pigs. Staff meetings really are much better with cheesecake. The verdict was that the texture, and absence of...

On Baking Adventures...
I had a bit of an adventure in baking last week. Early last week, in a round about way, I found a recipe to what was purportedly “THE cheesecake”. Really. It was claiming to be Capital T-H-E cheesecake. At first, I was speculative… until I read the lead-in blog post that went along with it. In short, the author/chef was not satisfied with any of the recipes for nor any of the...
FUBAR'd Telecom on the Central Coast
This morning I had a bit of a rude awakening. No, the cat didn’t tackle me in my sleep… nor did Chel. When I went to check my email this morning (it’s a compulsion, I know), I found that I didn’t have connectivity. Ok, I’ll try the infrequent DSL Bridge Power Cycle; no dice. Maybe it’s the Router; nope. I tried to use a neighbor’s WiFi to check my...

On Long Weekends in Tahoe…
Got back today from a long weekend in Tahoe. George and Candice, friends of Chel and me, managed to get a condo-cabin in North Tahoe. Apparently it’s been sort of an annual thing for George in the past; hasn’t done it since before he was married and sprouted a kidlette.
I eluded to the fun I had in my twitter post: “Managed 7 hours of...

Mario is fixed!
Horay! I just picked up Mario (the Cooper) from the repair shop.
I got a more complete story out of the guy at the repair shop. The noise that started 7-8k miles ago was the mainshaft bearing getting ready to go. The bizarre thing is that it would only make noise under load and the noise followed the speed of the car, not the speed of the engine. I figured at the worst it was a U-Joint in one of...
Green Wall Spackle
Tina: (Link to the picture in previous post)
Turtle: First thought when you sent me the link: Oh, what a shame, somebody probably took a circa 1978 toy of Han and did bowl-on-the-table gag/trick... After seeing the actual: That much Guac can't be cheap.... wait, how'd they get it vertical?
Tina: hahah I think guac is pretty strong
Turtle: yeah, but spackle-strong? I don't think I want to be injesting what ammounts to green wall-spackle
Tina: haha
Tina: I mostly thought, "Are those boobs?"
Mario needs new parts
Monday (yesterday) was interesting. Work and such was ok; it was the drive home that was of interest. Pulling out the parking lot, I noticed that my car was shifting a little funny. Then when I got into second gear it was making a new grindy-wakka-wakka noise. The last thing I wanted at that moment was to be stranded on the side of the freeway with a borked car, so once I got on the freeway and it...

Chipmunk Face
Monday morning I had a bone graft procedure.
Some history…
When I was ten years old I was hit by a car. Both of my front teeth came out and had to be re-implanted. Around a year later, one of them broke and I had both capped. The caps lasted around 15 years, until one of them started to fail, crack and break apart. I had it pieced back together and it lasted a little while longer. This...
Birthday brunch team-up
My parents came over this morning to have brunch with Chel and I. Actually, it was the six of us as Michelle’s parents were in town and we weren’t just going to ditch them. The four of us had breakfast the morning before at Walnut Ave. Cafe, and I didn’t want that a second day in a row. My mom was apprehensive about going to someplace new, so I figured ‘you can’t...
Joint Account? No! Joint Birthday party!
This year Chel and I decided to have a joint birthday party for the both of us. This year’s theme was “Rock Band”; I’ll give you two guesses as to what the activities were for most of the party. Seriously though, we did have a lot of fun.
Michelle’s parents were able to come down for the weekend and they provided a great help in tidying up the house in preparation...

back from the hospital
So Michelle is back from the Hospital this afternoon… wait, maybe I should back up.
Sunday evening, during the drive home from a weekend at my folks Michelle wasn’t feelin’ so hot. If you’ve been in the car with Michelle, you know she prone to getting motion sick after only about 500 feet. We got home and she decided to skip dinner and go straight to bed; I went up couple...

Interesting lunch break...
Worked from home today. Went to Safeway on what was my supposed lunch hour to get some groceries and such. Right in the middle of my shopping, walking down an aisle looking for a replacement air freshener for the downstairs bathroom, I walked into an uncomfortable scene: there was a woman in her 60’s who seems to have collapsed. Yep, right in the middle of the bleach and soap aisle. At the...
